Quality Testing Techniques for Luggage and Travel Bags

Before you buy a Travel Bag or a Laptop Bag, you would want to know if the bag you are buying will be able to protect your belongings. Read on to find out how luggage is tested for strength, durability and performance.

Some luggage reviewers test luggage using the drop test. In this type of test, a Travel Bag is dropped from a drop tester platform which is at least three feet high from the floor level. When the bag is dropped to the floor, the bag is likely to get dented or even break. Instead of worrying why the bag got damaged, the experts will determine how much the bag can withstand the rough physical handling by an airport handler.

The Laptop Bag or the travel bag that reaches you undergoes quality checking for its parts. The handles and straps of a bag help the person holding the bag to balance the weight of the bag. Telescopic handles, handles on the sides and the top are tested using the jerk test. The bag is placed on a platform at least three feet higher than the floor level. A chain is attached to the bag handle and the platform is suddenly pulled away from under the bag. The resulting fall of the bag causes a jerk to the handle. This helps in finding out how many times the handle will bear the pressure when you grab it while rushing to the airport or jerk it when placing it in the overhead bin.

The material from which the Laptop Bag or other travel bags are made is tested for strength and durability using the abrasion test. A swatch of the fabric is put on a machine that rubs the fabric a number of times against a rough and hard surface. If the fabric holds, the bag is approved for its quality.

Last but not the least, a number of surveyors could also be employed to test the bags and give their opinion regarding the fabric, space, design, durability and performance of the bag under various conditions.
